Report on BioGuard 1000

Pentex markets a patented device that can help the health of millions of people, called the BioGuard 1000. It is the first and only cordless portable air purifier that works on a technology called "Corona Discharge". It is elegant, compact, and worn on a neck strap or shirt pocket clip. Our research team at a prominent California University was asked to evaluate the BioGuard 1000 and determine how it could improve people's health.

We devised a system to make an airstream filled with bacteria which was then shot across a specially constructed experimental chamber, aimed at a petri-dish filled with growth medium. We showed that bacteria do grow on these plates using this atomizing system. The airstream was designed to approximate the flow of human breathing.

The BioGuard 1000 Personal Air Purifier was then placed under the airstream flow and bacterial growth on the petri dish was examined again: with the BioGuard 1000 present, we discovered a clear and significant drop in bacterial growth up to 90% of airborn bacteria were destroyed by BioGuard 1000 this is remarkable. To verify that the BioGuard 1000 did not simply blow bacteria around the chamber. we placed control plates around the chamber to see if any significant peripheral growth occurred: none did.

We envision testing BioGuard 1000 on a larger scale as well, placed in nurseries, day-care centers, hospitals (from main entrances to operating rooms), restaurants, airplanes, cars, homes. In these scenarios, BioGuard 1000 would be constantly laying its protective mantle over everybody present.

This immediately opens up the possibility that BioGuard 1000 could destroy viruses, tuberculosis, allergens, maybe even airborne poisons and smog. This would have a profound effect on our society. Millions of Americans, not to mention the hundreds of millions of people around the world who suffer from respiratory diseases could now have better health through this non-invasive, portable and safe device. Children with asthma, the elderly with emphysema (possibly even lung cancer), anybody with seasonal or environmental allergies would find, relief with BioGuard 1000. We might even inhibit the common cold. In theory, BioGuard 1000 can Inhibit airborne germs that are inhaled as well as exhaled, protecting both the wearer and those nearby. Indeed, by virtue of the experiments we have conducted, the results suggest that we could significantly reduce the risk of pneumonia. Pneumonia is particularly lethal to the elderly and infirmed - especially pneumonias contracted in hospitals.

We envision testing BioGuard 1000 on a larger scale as well, placed in nurseries, day-care centers, hospitals (from main entrances to operating rooms), restaurants, airplanes, cars, homes. In these scenarios, BioGuard 1000 would be constantly laying its protective mantle over everybody present. Based on our experiments, this could truly raise the standard of health for everybody. Potential specific medical uses include protecting the health of the immunocompromised, post-surgical patients, pulmonary and allergy patients, protecting hospital inpatients from nosocomial infections (this immediately can be extended to use for the same reason In nursing homes).. Other uses in society could include the food service industry, public transportation, in educational institutions - the possibilities the tremendous.

We have begun investigating the possibility that the portable BioGuard 1000 technology can also be used as an effective personal protection against various types of airborne chemical and biological threats; much work needs to be done in this area. We have alerted the F.B.I., bomb disposal squads and the military that this technology exists and would be made available to them upon request.
